What are BCAA's?

Branch Chain Amino Acids are the "Building Blocks" of muscle. They make up 35% of your muscle mass and must be present for muscle growth and recovery to take place. Eight are essential (cannot be manufactured by the body) the rest are non-essential (can be manufactured by the body with proper nutrition). Therefore you must supplement with BCAA's to get the most out of your workout and nutrition efforts.

What are the benefits of using BCAA's over Whey Protein?

The BCAAs in whey are bound to other amino acids and require digestion & absorbtion into the bloodstream to exert their effects. While Whey protein digests very fast it still takes several hours for all the amino acids to be absorbed into the bloodstream.  BCAAs in supplement form require no digestion and are therefore rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, spiking blood amino acids to a much greater extent than amino acids from whey protein. Even 10g of BCAAs will spike blood levels of BCAAs to a much greater extent than a 30g dose of whey protein, impacting protein synthesis and protein degradation to a much greater degree.

In pure english BCAA supplementation will help promote muscle growth and prevent muscle breakdown!

If Leucine is responsible for muscle growth can't I just use leucine?

Leucine depletes the other 2 BCAA in the body when taken alone. Leucine needs to be taken with a protein rich meal or together in a BCAA powder. Supplementing with a full BCAA suplement ensures you get the most out of your Leucine.
